Here’s a roundup of where area communities stand with Fourth of July celebrations, as of press time June 30. Communities that have decided to proceed with holding events are encouraging social distancing, facial coverings and careful hygiene to stay safe during Covid-19.
ABILENE
Celebrate the Fourth of July with the Paramount Film Series, a live band, vendors, food trucks, games, and more. Stick around for the Fireworks Spectacular at the Taylor County Expo Center.
Friday, July 3: Paramount Film Series: ‘Independence Day,” Historic Paramount Theatre, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 4: Gates open at 4 p.m. Children’s activities and food trucks; Patriotic military aircraft flyover, 6 p.m.; live music 5 pm to 10 p.m.; WesTex Connect & HEB Fireworks Spectacular Show, 10 p.m. Tickets for the Saturday event are available at abilenefreedomfestival.com. The event will observe all CDC and Health guidelines for foodservice and social distancing to ensure the safety and health of all guests.
AMARILLO
Summer Fireworks Extravaganza
Saturday, July 4, 4–10 p.m.

This event will take place in the heart of the city from Polk St. to Pierce between 4th and 7th, featuring food and beverage vendors, music on two stages, the Joe’s Beer Garden, and a tremendous fireworks show to end the evening.

The Amarillo Sod Poodles Baseball's new Texas Collegiate League will be playing baseball in Hodgetown Saturday at 7:05 p.m., with fireworks after the game.
CANADIAN
After considering the uncertainty and public health concerns that have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian/Hemphill County Chamber of Commerce board of directors agreed—with regret—to cancel their 2020 July 4 parade, courthouse lawn arts and crafts fair, turtle race and watermelon feed. The local fireworks display will go on the evening of July 4.
CANYON
The Canyon Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors has decided to cancel all of the Chamber 4th of July activities. Also, the TEXAS Outdoor Drama and its always-special July 4 fireworks show has been canceled for the 2020 season.
CLARENDON
Saints’ Roost July 4 Celebration & Rodeo
Following Gov. Greg Abbott's executive order Friday and after meeting with Donley County Judge John Howard, MD, Clarendon mayor Sandy Skelton has approved activities for the July Fourth Saints’ Roost Celebration to proceed as planned while encouraging face coverings and social distancing. The governor’s order already allows for rodeos to be held with 50 percent occupancy.
CROSBYTON
Crosbyton fireworks show, July 4
On Saturday, July 4, 2020, at 9 p.m. the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and the Crosbyton Volunteer Fire Department will present a fireworks show at the Associated Cotton Growers gin. The public is invited to view in their vehicles or outside their vehicles with lawn chairs. Presenters ask that everyone observe proper social distancing.
DICKENS
All customary events—parade, chuck wagon dinner, and fireworks–have been canceled for 2020.
JAYTON
The Kent County Golf Course will hold its Jaybird Basketball Benefit, inviting 4-member teams to register for $100 per team. The event begins at 8:30 a.m.
LUBBOCK
4th on Broadway
Lubbock’s popular 4th of July celebration has been rescheduled to Labor Day, September 7, 2020. A full schedule of events is posted at www.broadwayfestivals.com.
MCADOO
All customary July 4 activities have been canceled for this year.
PADUCAH
July 4 Celebration & Fireworks
Paducah reports that it is currently seeking donations to fund its annual July 4 fireworks show at the school football field, and that the July 4 show will go on if sufficient funds are raised. A softball tournament, completed with concession stands, is tenatively planned.
PLAINVIEW
38th annual July 3 Fireworks
Friday, July 3, 9:30 p.m.
Running Water Draw/Kidsville Park, Ennis & 4th
While the city’s Red, White, and Moo Parade has been canceled for 2020, fireworks will go on at dark. Spectators must park outside the park on the field.
POST
4th of July Fireworks
Saturday, July 4: According to Janice Plummer with the Post Chamber of Commerce, There will be no parade this year, however, there will be fireworks at dark in the park south of the city on U.S. 84, presented by the Post Volunteer Fire Department.
ROARING SPRINGS
4th of July Celebration
Saturday, July 4, all day, starting at 10 a.m. at Frank Mitchell Park. A take-out dinner and ice cream will be served at 6 p.m., and fireworks will take place at dark.
SILVERTON
Due to an ongoing burn ban, Lake Mackenzie will not host fireworks or 4th of July festivities this year.
SNYDER
Fourth of July Celebration
Saturday, July 4
For the first time in its long history, Snyder’s festival in Towle Park has been canceled. However, the parade goes on in the park, with line up at 9 a.m. and the parade at 10 a.m. Fireworks will occur at dark Saturday night.
WELLINGTON
Fourth of July Fireworks
Saturday, July 4
City rodeo grounds, First St. and TX Hwy. 83
Although Wellington opted to cancel its longstanding rodeo this year, the fireworks show will go forward at dark, according to Marcy Orr of Greenbelt Electric Cooperative.
TURKEY
July 4 Fireworks
Fireworks will be set off at dark from the old gin yard on Highway 86 west of town, but without the Picnic in the Park that generally precedes the display. Organizers ask spectators tostay in and around their own vehicles and respect social distancing attempts by others.
WHITE RIVER LAKE
July 3 Fireworks
White River Municipal Water District and the White River Marina have decided to have their traditional fireworks on Friday, July 3 at dark.
