Foothills Celebration, a music and entertainment festival in downtown Matador set for Saturday, Oct. 15, has announced the lineup of performers for its autumn event.
Slade Coulter, one of the hottest new acts in the country rock scene, will be the headliner for Foothills Celebration. Coulter is fresh off of a 2022 recording session at Melody Mountain Studios in Stephenville. A growing number of charting country musicians have opted to record in a different “ville”—Stephenville— instead of Nashville. William Clark Green just recorded his fifth album there.
Melody Mountain Studios is owned by Texas music legend Larry Joe Taylor, the namesake of the Larry Joe Taylor six-day music festival in Stephenville, which has drawn around 50,000 fans for six days of country rock for almost two decades.
Coulter, a native of Jayton who graduated from Texas Tech in 2020, follows in the footsteps of legendary Texas musicians with Red Raider root, such as Pat Green, Terry Allen, Bob Livingston, and Butch Hancock and Jimmy Dale Gilmore of the Flatlanders. Coulter has opened for numerous country acts, including the Josh Abbott Band, William Clark Green, and the Randy Rogers Band, and crisscrossed the South developing a following across the country rock landscape. The singer-songwriter has listed Robert Earl Keen among his influences.
