Four teams in the hunt for three playoff slots

There’s a whole lot of boys’ basketball left to play in district 5-1A between now and February 12.

If you freeze frame the action where it is at press time, however, Paducah has sole possession of first place with an undefeated record of 6-0 and Jayton is right behind them in second at 5-1.

Spur and Guthrie are battling it out for the final ticket to the playoffs, and they both have 3-3 records.

In all likelihood, Paducah and Jayton will advance to the playoffs. Who will actually win the district might come down to the next to last game of the season on February 9 in Paducah. The Dragons upset the Jaybirds on their home court earlier this year, and Jayton is probably very interested in returning the favor.

But the battle for the third place may hinge on the outcome of the February 5 game between Spur and Guthrie at the Domes. Both teams also have to still face state-ranked Jayton.
