Fourth of July celebrations across the region

Even as residents throughout our regions clean up from devastating storms last week, communities are more resilient than ever—and the show must go on! Whether you’re traveling or staying close to home as you celebrate Independence Day this year, there’s bound to be an event close to you. The 2023 lineup of parades, contests, kids’ activities, and more starts on Saturday, July 1 (or as early as June 29, with the Snyder carnival)—and the food, fun, and fireworks go through Monday, July 4. Here’s our roundup of information to keep handy as you make plans.

JAYTON— SATURDAY, JULY 1

On Saturday, July 1, the Jaybirds are hosting the Jayton Basketball Benefit at the Kent County Golf Course.

A four-person scramble, the costs to play are $200 for a four-person team or $50 per person. Carts will be available for $15, first come, first served.

The course will also be open Independence Day at 11 a.m. for those wanting to play 18 holes.

Fireworks will take place at dark at the Kent County Nursing Home, 443 N. Main St.

SPUR— SATURDAY, JULY 1

Spur’s Independence Day events get under way with a parade downtown at 10 a.m., spon-sored by the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce. Those wishing to be in the parade (kids on bicy-cles, organizations/ companies with a float, ATVs/mules, horses, etc.) should contact the Chamber at (806) 271-3097 or email spurchamber@gmail.com.

For veterans who wish to participate, the Chamber is providing a float for them to ride on as Grand Marshals.

Parade lineup will start at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Spur Farmers Coop parking lot at 302 6th St. The parade route is the same as last year: Burlington Avenue to 1st St., to Willard Ave., back to 6th St. and returning to the Co-op.

Following the parade, the Spur Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a free hot dog cookout in Rickels Park.

At 6:30 p.m., the Spur Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a fundraiser barbecue at Swen-son Park.

Fireworks will get underway in Swenson Park at dark.

AROUND THE REGION CROSBYTON—TUESDAY, JULY 4

Crosbyton’s Independence Day activities will be Tuesday, July 4. Events get underway with parade line-up at the school at 9:30 a.m. and the parade will begin at 10 a.m. and advance through downtown.

Following the parade, there will be a car show downtown. Other downtown offerings include a cornhole tournament beginning at noon under the shade at the county courthouse.

There will be live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Crosby County Pioneer Museum, where food and vendor booths will be located. Free vendor spaces are available for those wishing to sell their wares.

Prior to the fireworks at the football field, a Glow Walk to benefit the Animal Rescue Crosby County (ARCC) will be held. Donate a bag or can of pet food, get a glow stick, and participate in a walk to support the animal rescue group.

Fireworks by the Crosbyton Volunteer Fire Department will be at the football stadium at dark.

FLOYDADA— TUESDAY, JULY 4

The 4th annual July 4th Free Pancake Breakfast will be Tuesday, July 4, beginning at 7 a.m. The Serrato Sisters are still looking for sponsors for the event. If you would like to join their efforts, please call/ text (806) 983-4535 or drop by Whirlwind Nutrition for a participant form.

In the afternoon of July 4, Floydada will be having a Freedom Parade. Registration for the parade starts at 1 p.m. and the parade begins at 2:30 p.m. at Lowe’s Grocery Store.

Floats, bicycles, motorcycles, farm equipment and scooters are encouraged to participate; people walking on foot are welcome too.

Vendors will be in the same area where there will also be a 50-50 payout for the cornhole and threeon- three basketball tournament. Obstacle course bouncy houses will also be on site. A DJ will be providing music throughout the afternoon activities.

The evening highlight will be the fireworks displayed off Highway 70 between Floydada and Lockney near Muncy. It will last approximately 30-45 minutes.

Floydada 4th of July activities are presented by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, the Floydada Police Department, the Floydada Chamber of Commerce and the Serrato Sisters.

Lockney will once again host its annual 4th of July Bike Parade on Tuesday, July 4, downtown on Lockney’s Main Street.

The Bike Parade is a tradition much older than many of the participants. “Nobody knows for sure when it got started, but give or take a year or two, it’s been going on for about 34+ years,” said organizer Cathy Hunter.

Initially, there were about ten bicycles and a go-cart. “It used to be just a neighborhood parade around a few blocks where we lived,” she added, “and it’s just grown from there.

It’s a community event and everyone pitches in to get it organized. There’s not a certain person that does it all.

The parade will assemble at the Main Street Church of Christ parking lot and travel down Main Street, around the Nursing Home, and back to the church parking lot, where particpants will enjoy popcorn and lemonade.

Decorated bikes, wagons, scooters, strollers, golf carts, 4-wheelers are welcome. Decorate them up if you would like to. We request no pickups, cars, motorcycles or floats.

Lineup will be in the parking lot at 9:45 a.m. and the parade will start at 10 a.m.

After the parade, refreshments will be served in the Main Street Church of Christ parking lot.

PADUCAH—TUESDAY,

JULY 4

Paducah’s Chamber of Commerce and Volunteer Fire Department will have fireworks, watermelons, kids’ water games, and more.

At 6 p.m., loaded nachos will be served followed by live music at 7 p.m. at Dragon Stadium.

The Paducah Volunteer Fire Department will present a fireworks display at the Dragon Stadium at dusk. Donations are needed to fund the fireworks and may be dropped off at either First Wellington National Bank or First United Bank in Paducah. Watermelons donated by the Paducah Chamber of Commerce will be free prior to the fireworks display at the stadium.

PLAINVIEW—

SATURDAY, JULY 1

The Red, White & Moo Freedom Parade & Milk Fest, along with various other activities, will be held on Saturday, July 1 at the courthouse lawn in downtown Plainview.

Activities will begin with the Red, White & Moo Freedom Parade at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at the Railroad Depot (12th & Broadway) and turn west at 6th & Broadway ending at City Hall. Candy will be allowed but no semi-trucks (or other vehicles) unable make the corner turn at 6th & Broadway. Prizes will be given for the Best Decorated Entry and People’s Choice Award. Parade watchers will take a photo of their favorite entry and post it on the Red, White & Moo Facebook page (www.facebook. com/Red, White and MOO Milk Fest). People will be able to vote until midnight July 3rd. The winners will be announced on the Red, White & Moo Facebook page at noon on Tuesday, July 4. Prizes will be given for the Best Decorated Entry and the People’s Choice Award.

Following the parade, the Red, White & Moo Milk Fest will be held on the courthouse lawn from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Activities will include music, bouncy houses, a mobile dairy classroom, a petting zoo, face painting, food trucks and, of course, free ice cream, milk and cheese.

The event is organized by the Red, White & Moo Committee, consisting of local dairies including Grand View Dairy, Fox Dairy, Legacy Farms, Dairy Fountain and Descanso Dairy. It has been held for more than ten years and is celebrated across the country in June for National Dairy Month. Along with the local dairies, Dairy Max and Southwest Dairy Farmers also support the efforts of the Red, White & Moo Festival.

POST— TUESDAY, JULY 4

Fourth of July celebrations will get underway at 5 p.m. with vendor set-up at Southlake Park (no booth fees). Contact Meg Nelson for information (806) 5486417.

Bikes wanting to join the parade can meet at the Post Volunteer Fire Station at 5 p.m. with help decorating. At 6 p.m., the bike parade will leave the fire station and be escorted by firetruck to the park where they will kick off the celebrations with the mounting of flags and the Pledge of Allegiance. Turtle races sponsored by Dick and Shellee Odom (turtles provided) begin at 7 p.m.

The fireworks show by the Post Volunteer Fire Department will be at dark in the Post City Park (entrance off U.S 84, half a mile south of downtown). RALLS

The City of Ralls reports they are not holding any Fourth of July events this year.

ROARING SPRINGS— SATURDAY, JULY 1 The 27th annual Independence Day Celebration of Roaring Springs will be Saturday, July 1.

Events get under way with a patriotic program at 9 a.m. at Frank Mitchell Memorial Park.

The parade line-up is at 9:30 a.m., and then the parade starts at 10 a.m. and ends at the Community Center.

Vendors will set up at 10 a.m. at the Community Center.

Lunch is at the Community Center sponsored by the Motley County cheerleaders.

In the afternoon bingo is scheduled for the Community Center at 1:00 p.m.

At 6 p.m. there will be a barbecue meal, which will be a fundraiser for the Roaring Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Live music begins 6:30 p.m. followed by kids’ games at 7:30 p.m. Please bring ice cream for the ice cream social at 8 p.m. and fireworks get underway around 9:30 p.m.

SILVERTON—TUESDAY, JULY 4 The Silverton Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting an Independence Day Celebration with a hot dog supper at the City Park in Silverton on Highway 86 on Tuesday, July 4, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Homemade ice cream and corn hole games are also part of the festivities. Bring your lawn chairs and join us in Silverton City Park.

SNYDER—JUNE 29– JULY 4 Snyder will be celebrating the Fourth of July with a six-day carnival, June 29 through July 4. On the Fourth, there will be a parade, live music, food booths and vendors, and fireworks at sunset. All activities take place in Towle Park (entrance off College Avenue, two miles south of downtown).

Snyder will celebrate the Fourth on two days: Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4. On both days, there be vendors, live music and a sand volleyball tournament near the pond in Towle Park.

On Monday, July 4 lineup for the Independence Day parade in the park is at 9 a.m., and the parade is at 10 a.m.

Vendors continue until dusk, and then there’s a fireworks extravaganza.

TURKEY—SUNDAY, JULY 2

The Turkey Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their Independence Day Celebration Sunday, July 2, in the City Park at 6 p.m.

Turkey’s festivities will include food, prizes, and live music by The Cool Old Guys and a Chick.

For this year’s 4th of July raffle, the Turkey VFD is offering a rifle and a crossbow. To purchase tickets, contact a member of TVFD.

Fireworks begin thirty minutes after dark.

WHITE RIVER LAKE— ALL WEEKEND

Friday, June 30—Fish Fry 5–9 p.m., with live music by the Jordan Robert Kirk Band; Fireworks Show at dark Saturday, July 1—10 a.m., parade on Marina Road.
