Giving Tuesday 2023 'heats up' for Spur's Palace Theater funding

At the invitation of the Community Foundation of West Texas, the Palace is once again participating in the annual nationwide #GivingTuesday initiative, to raise money for upgrades to its heating and air conditioning system.

Spur’s 1929 Palace Theater has come a long way in recent years, successfully reopening in 2018 to show movies in digital format. Despite the setbacks of Covid-19 closures and destructive weather events, the theater, under the management of the Dickens County Historical Commission, has pushed forward, steadily making repairs and improvements with the help of local donors and grant-making agencies.

Last year, the theater met its $5,000 Giving Tuesday goal to fund a new sound mixer board and speaker system. With an aim to bring more live stage events to the theater in 2024, the DCHC has also applied for a Community Foundation of West Texas grant to enhance its stage and green room areas.

While the results of that application won’t be known for some weeks, friends of the theater have the opportunity for any gift made by check or cash between now and November 28, 2022, to earn a percentage match from funds generated all across West Texas.
