Party: Republican
Elected office sought: Dickens County Commissioner, Precinct 4
Hometown, education, and occupation: I was born and raised in Spur and graduated Spur High School, Class of 1976, and it never entered my mind to ever leave. After high school, I went to work at the Texas A&M Experiment Station for fic years. In 1981, I left the experiment station and since that time I have successfully run my own farming and ranching operation.
Family: My wife, Lesa, and I celebrated 30 years of marriage last year and have three grown children, Bristi Cure, Kelsi Thomas and Tanner Arnold, all graduates of Spur High School. They in turn have blessed us with six beautiful grandchildren.
Interests: I enjoy all things family. Watching my grandchildren in their activities and spending time with our family is the biggest blessing. I do enjoy playing a game of golf, traveling and camping with friends and family, and raising good cattle!
Key campaign messages:
• I will always be available to hear concerns, do my best to remain open minded, transparent and take into consideration all aspects before making an informed decision.
• Having lived in Dickens County all my life, I have either been appointed or elected to serve on many boards and associations, and the experience gained in these positions will be key in serving as a County Commissioner. To name a few, Dickens Co. Jr. Livestock Association, Farm Service Agency County Committee, Duck Creek SWCD, Spur Farmers Coop Gin, Board of Directors, Spur Cemetery Assoc., Spur ISD, Board of Trustees, and retired Chief of the Spur Volunteer Fire Department.
• I truly want the best for the residents of Dickens County and will make my decisions accordingly. Working with the Commissioners Court in an orderly, open minded, transparent environment is of utmost importance and is in the best interest of the County.
What areas of public policy or community issues matter most to you? I am dedicated to providing services to the residents of Dickens County in as cost effective manner as possible. With the additional tax base being brought in by Argo, this tax revenue will need to be budgeted wisely, so that it takes some tax burden off of the taxpayer and help provide and enhance other services. We are fortunate to have volunteer emergency services. These men and women are invaluable to our community, they provide a service that we cannot live without. As we look to the future we have to take into consideration that our volunteer base is getting smaller, especially with EMS. I am dedicated to help find solutions to these and other problematic areas that we and other rural counties face. Working together we can all make Dickens County a better place to live and raise families.
