Highway 208 bridge in Kent County open again

Drivers on local highways between Dickens and points south—Snyder and Roby—have rejoiced already that travel for work, shopping or high school sports has once again been shortened by a few miles.

The bridge reconstruction project over the Salt Fork of the Brazos River north of Clairemont, in Kent County, reopened Friday, Dec. 8, with detour signs re- moved Dec. 11, according to the TxDOT Abilene District.

The closure, between Clairemont and Spur, lasted approximately 10 months.

This was a bridge replacement project, TxDOT spokesperson said, with improvements including the bridge replacement with approaches (i.e., entry to and exit from the bridge).

The Abilene District confirmed that the Brazos River bridge on US 380 between Kent County and Aspermont, which has been under construction and involves a one-lane passage, is still under construction and is estimated to be completed in spring of 2025.

Travel between Spur and Post on FM261 across the White River in Kalgary continues to detour around to White River Lake isn’t a long one. According to Tx-DOT’s DriveTexas.org website, that project is expected to end on Sept. 9, 2024.
