This past Saturday started out a nice spring morning for the annual Highway 70 yard sales, but the blistering heat of the afternoon felt more like summertime. Tommy and I decided to set up some sale items in the library parking lot this year.
There are usually a few people set up in the parking lot for this event. Some of our first customers were a couple of ladies from Peacock. The younger of the two got out of the car and asked if we had any books. She said she was bringing her mom to the sales looking for books. I was able to help themout. I took them into the used book room of the library and told them to look all they wanted get what they wanted and all we ask is they make a donation to the Friends of the Library. After loading several boxes of books in the trunk of their car they made a very generous donation to the Friends of the Library. All in all it was a good day for both the library and for Tommy and me.
We received the first of the books ordered with the funding received from the Tocker Foundation for our collection enhancement project. We will have more coming in very soon. The ones we received have added to the large print collection. Also new to the large print section is a New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and Wall Street Journal Bestseller by Joanna Fluke, “Caramel Pecan Roll Murder.”
In the children’s nonfiction section we have added National Geographic’s “Weird but True” volumes one through three. Wacky facts, fascinating information, and lively art combine to make these books irresistible brain candy for young readers. Kids will have so much fun that they won't even realize they're learning.
Also for the children, in the fiction section, we have three from Mo O’Hara’s “My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish” series.
