Humphreys presented with RHA Working Cowboy Award Nov. 3

Since the creation of the Ranching Heritage Association Working Cowboy Award in 2018, according to social media posts by the RHA, acclaimed spur maker Matt Humphreys has crafted the custom, commemorative spurs given to the award recipient.

This year's Working Cowboy honoree was Jimbo Humphreys, and there is relation indeed. It speaks to the generational bonds of ranching that Matt Humphreys built the spurs his father received at the Nov. 3 Golden Spur Honors ceremony, held at Lubbock’s Buddy Holly Hall. In fact, Matt learned much of his craft from watching his father, an accomplished bit and spur maker in his own right.

“The ranch lifestyle, the cowboy lifestyle,” said the senior Humpreys, “it all consists of God, family, and freedom. Because all cowboys are free; nobody owns him. That trickles all the way down through the ranch cowboys, feedlot cowboys, all of us. All that lifestyle is in and around creation, nature, outside. And that draws us all to the Creator.”

The RHA has posted several videos from the gala event on their Facebook page at https:// www.facebook.com/ nrhcttu?locale=pl_PL
