Summer begins with the 9th annual FBC Spur Coed Softball Tournament on June 18–19 this year in Swenson Park.
The Ortiz family “Smashers” look to squeeze another year out of old legs to defend their title against a field of home-grown competition and a few outside hopefuls.
Fans have wondered if this might finally be the year that Landon Hinson’s “Sunday Sleepers” actually provide a challenge for the trophy, but experts agree it’s doubtful!
This year welcomes back the Oscar Frausto team of “Leftovers” after having to miss out on the action last year—most likely out of fear.
Michael Hiebert and his Can-Tex Roofing “Mounties” look to mount a Canadian challenge for the title and discuss your roofing needs should the opportunity present itself. But at the end of the day it is the world-renowned “Holy Sox” which continue to terrify the field.
Holy Sox deserter Kailyx Childers and Eli Guerrero of Ralls each bring in a team to bring the tournament total to seven, with one more slot available for anyone brave enough to face the competition.
Teams can register at fbcspur.org/softball. Games will begin on Friday night, June 18, at 7 p.m. at the ballfield in Swenson Park; however, this year Spur Little League will first host its Closing Ceremonies and 2021 award presentation at 5:30 p.m. to kick off the tournament.
Games will resume play at 8 a.m. Saturday and continue all day, with the championship game set for Saturday night at 9:45 p.m. We invite everyone out with their lawn chairs to have a burger or three, sip a few glasses of sweet tea, and to enjoy a throwback to simpler times of community fun and conversation.
The giant waterslide will be set up at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and available to all kids with a $10 wristband from the concession stand. The concession stand will be worked by the youth of FBC Spur and their parents in order to offset the cost of this year’s youth camps and to supply funds for the annual Disciple Now hosted each fall. We hope you’ll join us!
