FLOYDADA—Lockney, Texas, native Wade Jackson, district attorney for the 110th District Court, last week announced his resignation midway through his second four-year term.
Jackson told our sister newspaper the Hesperian-Beacon he was stepping down for personal family reasons. He will continue to handle his caseload, he said, and had already overseen grand juries in the circuit’s three smaller counties before resigning.
In his office in Floydada, he was busy scheduling hearings all day Monday.
“I will be here, that’s all I can tell you,” he said, until an appointment is made, possibly a matter of weeks but dependent on the governor’s timetable.
In a letter sent to Gov. Greg Abbott, Jackson also asked the governor to expedite the appointment of a new district attorney, saying his office did not have an assistant district attorney to take over for him.
Jackson, a 1991 graduate of the University of Texas law school, was first licensed to practice law in November 1991 and became assistant district attorney in Taylor County (Abilene) in August 1993. From May 1995 until December 2016, Jackson served as Lubbock County’s first assistant district attorney. He has served in the 100th for the past six years.
The 110th Judicial District, based in Floydada, covers Briscoe, Dickens, Floyd, and Motley counites.
