Jayton boys win Area playoff, set for Regional Quarterfinal Tuesday, March 1

The Jayton Jaybirds boys’ varsity basketball team defeated the Garden City Bearkats 53–42 Friday night in Colorado City in the area playoff game.

The Jaybirds (21–3) advance to the Regional Quarterfinals where they will face the Klondike Cougars (17–12) at Frenship High School in Wolfforth, near Lubbock.

Klondike competes in one of the tougher districts, District 8-1A, which includes Grady, who have already toppled the Paducah Dragons in the playoffs. Garden City which Jayton defeated in the area round is also in District 8-1A, as is Borden County, who are always strong.

The Cougars are on a threegame winning streak.

The Jaybirds are on a 12- game winning streak. In fact, according to MaxPreps.com, the Jaybirds have not lost to a 1A school since December 11, when they lost in a tournament to Wildorado. The Jaybirds other two losses this year were 54–53 to 2A school Gruver and 31–27 to 4A school Big Spring.
