On Monday, May 10, 2022, the city council of the City of Jayton met for a monthly meeting. Mayor George Chisum call the meeting to order at 6:08 p.m. All members of the board were present with the exception of Belle Branham. Jake Edwards was not present, following his resignation from the board due to a move.
No members of the public were present to offer public comment.
The board unanimously approved the last meeting minutes, bills, time cards, bank statements, and comp time.
Most interest of the board was spent toward the utility report, ongoing inspection of city water storage units, and updating the city’s drought plan.
The City of Jayton called out inspectors as required periodically to inspect the ground water storage tank and the water tower storage tank. While the ground storage inspection came back favorable, the inspectors failed to complete the inspection by considering the water tower storage tank. There are plans for them to return and complete the inspection in the next two weeks.
Among regular monthly maintenance such as installing new meters, locating sewer lines, and electrical repairs at the swer plant, city staff brought the council a copy of the latest drought plan that was written in the year 2000. The plan includes stages of drought and what restrictions may be placed on water usage during each stage. Additionally, the plan included a list of projects that the board selected to complete between 2000 and 2010.
The majority of the list consisted of routine yearly maintenance and had be accomplished. One project listed that remained incomplete was the replacement of certain main lines and the acquirement of a grant to do further replacement or repairs. The board considered the existing plan and motioned that the drought plan be approved to be updated with new dates and the list of projects be cleared except for those outstanding. It was mentioned that further consideration of new water related projects may be added to the new plan at a later date.
In new business, the board reappointed Belle Branham to serve as mayor pro tem for the next term. Additionally, the board continues to seek an individual to appoint for the remainder of the term of Jake Edwards. Board members tabled any action on that appointment with plans to come to next months meeting with consideration for the position.
The board also considered the continuation of the contract with UniFirst, which supplies the city with uniforms and rugs. The board approved the continuation of this contract.
No delinquent list was considered, and the property tax report was considered only briefly.
Alderman Margo Clay concluded the meeting with a motion to adjourn shortly after 7 p.m.
