Jayton hosts 16th Annual Gridiron Classic Aug 29-31

Get ready for three of the best days of six-man football you can hope to see. Eighteen teams from across West Texas set up shop this week in Kent County Thursday through Saturday in the 16th Annual Gridiron Classic at Jaybird Stadium.

More than half of those squads have been ranked in a statewide Top 10 preseason poll.

Playing host will be the Jayton Jaybirds, which were selected #1 in the state in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s pre-season Division II six-man poll.

The weather is slated to have cooled off considerably by then with night-time temps dropping into the sixties, and even afternoon highs are only expected to be in the low- to mid-nineties.

Hot or not, there will be plenty of refreshments to keep fans hydrated and nourished. The Jayton junior class will be selling concessions for every game.

Speaking of setting up shop, Jaybird Alley will be replete with all kinds of vendors with a variety of merchandise and shopping options.

If you’re driving in for the “sixmanpalooza” and want to take in a couple of days of contests, accommodations are still available at the Back Door Inn (806) 271-4780 and the Mesquite Inn (806) 422-0977, both in Spur, only 20 minutes away.

The stadium is found at Jones Street at Jackson Avenue.
