It was a cold, rainy Thursday morning when The Texas Spur received a tip that there had been a highway accident involving Jayton-Girard ISD vehicles traveling to the regional UIL One Act Play competition in Post.
After talking with Kent County sheriff William Scogin and JGISD principal Lyle Lacke,y it was determined that a school pickup truck pulling a trailer likely hydroplaned on wet roads.
Two staff members, Hillary Bleiker and Kristi Tidmore, suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization, according to Scogin, and the bus transporting students was not involved in the crash.
According to Lackey, almost all of the equipment they were carrying was in good shape and the troupe was able to perform the following day.
UIL officials rescheduled Jayton’s One Act Play performance for Friday in Post at 7 p.m., and the show certainly went on.
In fact, their performance “Treasure Island” was selected to advance to State, making it Jayton’s first One Act Play company ever selected for that honor.
Cast members honored include Erielle Coulter and Alana Croft for All Star Cast and Joel Williams for Honorable Mention Cast.
The “Treasure Island” company will present their show at the State One Act Play competition in May in Austin.
