Jayton, Paducah prevail in playoffs; Spur slips

Westbrook 59, Spur 58 The Spur Bulldogs never trailed the Westbrook Wildcats Friday night until the final 10 seconds of the game.

With two minutes left in the third quarter the Bulldogs led by a dozen points, 48 to 36. But their free throw shooting grew cold, and the lead narrowed to 9, to 7, to 3—and then, with a little over a minute left, rather than try to grow the margin, the Bulldogs burned up the seconds on the clock, and when they finally took their shot, they missed.

A rapid succession of events found them only ahead of Westbrook by 1 point with 34 seconds to go.

In last half minute of the game, Westbrook sank their shot, and Spur could not.

Jayton 43, Aspermont 29 Ranked #8 in the state, defending regional champion Jayton had little trouble with the Aspermont Hornets at McMurry University in Abilene on Friday night. The Jaybirds faced Westbrook as they sought a back-to-back regional title.

Paducah 72, Hamlin 52 The #7 1A team in the state Paducah Dragons never trailed the Hamlin Pied Pipers in Friday night’s area playoff game in Munday. Tuesday night they took on the Hermleigh Cardinals at McMurray University in Abilene at the regional quarterfinals.
