In its regularly scheduled monthly meeting of February 15, 2022, called to order by Mayor George Chisum at 6:15 p.m., the Jayton city council reviewed applications received for the job opening of city technician, with one applicant present to address the council considering his interest.
The council intends to allow time for all publications to be printed and the time allotted to pass before hiring. Members expressed the hope they will be ready to hire by the next regular meeting.
There were none present for public comment.
Approval of previous meeting minutes, monthly bills, time cards, and comp time accrual were all approved unanimously with limited comment from the council.
The considerations of bills and bank statements initiated comment from councilman Marsha Smith regarding the city’s intent to invest savings or spend funds for future improvements around town. Mayor Chisum requested this be listed as an agenda item at the next regular meeting for further consideration.
The public utilities report noted work on quick connections, pump stations, generators, and the water tower.
In new business, the council approved a joint election with Jayton ISD and an annual holiday schedule to coincide with Kent County’s designated holidays.
No old business was addressed.
The delinquent municipal water customer list was approved, with most accounts being in process of payment.
The council reviewed and approved the current property tax collections report.
All council members were present with the exception of Jake Edwards. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
