Each year school boards across the state are charged with working with the superintendent of the district as a “Team of Eight” to serve the needs of the community in providing education for the kids in their respective district. At JGISD, we are very fortunate to have school board members who are dedicated and willing to do whatever it takes to help our kids. One example of this is the completion of the “Team of 8” training. This is a three-hour training that involves looking at many aspects of the district and working to build the best “Team of Eight,” which includes the seven school board members and the superintendent.
The Jayton school board completed this training on October 19th, 2021. Dr. Gene Sheets of LCU provided the training. As the superintendent of Jayton-Girard ISD, I very much appreciate the board’s willingness to take part in this extensive training. I truly believe that this shows the board’s dedication to provide the best possible education for our students. Jayton-Girard ISD’s vision statement reads: “JGISD is committed to molding students into the best citizens and leaders of tomorrow that are adaptable, respectful, and productive.” I am thankful for the leadership of our board who model these characteristics that we strive to instill in each of our students.
One quote from the training that the board focused on was from Larry Reynolds, (The Trust Effect). It reads: “…it is the relationships between people, not the people themselves, which distinguish a great organization from a mediocre one. In fact…, the quality of relationships can mean the difference between success and failure.” In closing, I am grateful for our school board’s drive to maintain the kind of relationships within our team of eight that will allow us to continue to serve our kids at JGISD.
