In last Friday’s district track meet at Jayton, the Lady Jays finished in 3rd place, behind Spur and Guthrie. Friday’s unrelenting dust-filled winds never let up, increasing the challenges of the district meet, but female tracksters persevered as the lead changed several times among the three 5-1A teams at the top.
When the day was done the top three were Spur at 161.5, Guthrie at 151 and Jayton at 130. One or two events separated the top three teams.
On the boys’ side, Spur jumped out to a quick lead and worked hard to maintain it all day long. The top four finishers were Spur, Paducah, Motley and Jayton.
The Lady Jays sent 18 competitors to the Area competition Wednesday, April 14, in Post: Brynn Yanez, 100-meter dash, 1st place, and 200-meter dash, 1st place; Kamryn Nail, 800-meter run, 2nd place; Daylee Chisum, 800-meter run, 3rd place; Daylee Chisum, 1600-meter run, 1st place, and 3200 meter run, 1st place; Liz Lackey, Kaydence Kilner, Harley Smith, Brynn Yanez, 4x100- meter relays, 2nd place; Liz Lackey, Harley Smith, Bryan Yanez, Madison Holcombe, 4x200-meter relays, 2nd place; Katherine McGee, shot-put, 2nd place, Alana Croft, 4th place; Katherine McGee, discus, 3rd place; and Liz Lackey, high jump, 3rd place.
The Jaybirds sent 12 competitors to the Area championships, including Ben Blankenship, 400-meter dash, 3rd place; Cody Redding, 800-meter run, 4th place, and 1000-meter run, 3rd place; Robert Lowery, 4th place, 1600-meter run, and 3rd place, 3200-meter run; Isaac King, high jump, 3rd place, 4x400-meter relays, 2nd place; Cody Redding, Isaac King, Robert Lowery, Ben Blankenship; and Cody Redding, pole vault, 1st place.
