In the regular monthly meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District on August 28, Principal Nathan Branum reported that the school system had an enrollment of 172.
Interim Superintendent Johnny Tubb updated the board on repairs from the June storm, the planned work on the football field, possible construction, school board training hours and the guidelines for school resource officer.
In next action, trustees unanimously adopted a new official JGISD logo with a longer top bar on the J.
For its next initiative the board voted unanimously for the Superintendent to calculate the tax rates in accordance with requirements in the Tax Code and Education Code as presented.
Trustees then voted unanimously to adopt the budget as presented and reviewed by the board as the district’s budget for the 2023-2024 school year.
The board then voted unanimously that the property tax rate be set by the adoption of a tax rate of 0.7892.
Trustees then voted unanimously to approve the 2023-2024 Teacher Appraisal Calendar as presented.
The board then voted unanimously to approve 2022-2023 budget amendments as presented.
Trustees then unanimously approved the Insurance Proposal from Henderson Agency, Inc., for insurance for school buildings, vehicles, and campus housing as presented.
Next, the board voted unanimously to request for County Permanent School Funds in the amount of $97,275.53 for capital improvements.
Finally, trustees voted unanimously to approve the amended 2023-2024 School Calendar due to UIL conflicts as presented.
The next meeting date and time for a regular board meeting will be on September 18, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.
Board members in attendance were L’Rae Lee, Jeff Arnold, Amanda Mc-Gee, Steven Collins, Cody Scott and Andy Vargas. School officials present were Johnny Tubb, interim superintendent; Nathan Branum, principal; Laci Scogin, business manager; and Keith Emfinger, network administrator.
