meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District board on November 21, 2022, trustees approved the canvassing order for the district’s Nov. 8, 2022, Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election reflecting 176 votes “For” the proposition and 134 votes “against” the proposition.
Principal Nathan Branum gave the principal’s report, which included: current enrollment of 176, College and Career Fairs, Safety Fairs, Drills, ACT Testing, Fall Fest, Veterans Day Program, State Cross Country, Football, Basketball, Robotics, FFA, UIL Congress, JH OAP District Win, and upcoming events.
Trustees then heard a presentation from Vince Viaille on bond planning.
Superintendent Layne Sheets reviewed Accountability Scores, and his superintendent’s report included an update on the old daycare building, 313 Agreements, and Suburbans to auction.
In a motion made by Jeff Arnold and seconded by Amanda McGee, trustees unanimously agreed to approve the purchase of vape detectors from CSI as presented.
The board then entered closed session at 9:17 pm for personnel matters and returned to regular session at 9:30 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 9:31 p.m. The next board meeting will be December 15 at 7:00 p.m.
In attendance at the meeting were B.J. Baldridge, president; Jeff Arnold, Amanda McGee, Steven Collins, L’Rae Lee and Cody Stanaland. Trustee Andy Vargas was absent.
School officials present were Layne Sheets, superintendent; Nathan Branum, principal; Laci Scogin, business manager; and Keith Emfinger, network administrator.
