In the regular monthly meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District Board of Trustees on February 17,theboardunanimously voted to appoint Marilyn Bennett as election judge for the May 6, 2023 election.
In other board action trustees discussed approval and payment of bills and the financial report, HB3 Student Outcome Goals, and the 2023–24 School Calendar. A motion was made by Andy Vargas and seconded by Jeff Arnold to approve all but the 2023–24 School Calendar. All voted in favor of the motion. Trusteesagreedtolookatthe 2023–24 School Calendar at the next board meeting.
The board also voted for football field and track improvements. Arnold made the motion to authorize MWM Architects, Inc. to proceed with the work associated withtheFootballFieldand Track improvements to be located in the general vicinity as it is currently constructed. This work may include, but is not limited to: 1. New Home side grandstands and associated work to be constructed on the west side of the stadium.
2. New field turf and associated drainage requirements 3. New or resurfaced track (7 or 8 lanes to be determined by Owner) with associated timing system 4. New and or tie-in to existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing system as required for the work.
Arnold’s motion noted that the school district will need to get a fee proposal for the civil work to be required and would involve an additional fee to the 6% architectural fee as outlined in the contract. His motion was seconded by Steven Collins. All voted in favor.
Steven Collins made a motion to approve the presented resolution by selecting a procurement method for the construction of work outlined above. His motion was seconded by Andy Vargas. All voted in favor.
In attendance at the February board meeting were President B.J. Baldridge and trustees Jeff Arnold, L’Rae Lee, Steven Collins and Andy Vargas. Absent were Amanda McGee and Cody Scott.
School officials present were Layne Sheets, superintendent; Nathan Branum, principal; and Laci Scogin, business manager.
Visitors present were Melanie Meixner and Stephen Drewell with MWM Architects.
