JGISD board approves request for permanent funds for capital improvements in June meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District on June 19, Interim Superintendent Johnny Boggs presented a quarterly investment report, campus housing updates, gym floor updates, and TREA Conference report.

In other action, trustees unanimously approved consent items, which included a request for County Permanent Funds in the amount of $673,083.98 for capital improvements.

The board also voted unanimously for a call for vehicle fuel and propane bids and to call for vendors for personal property valued between $10,000 and $25,000 for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

Trustees received an annual review of investment policies and procedures and then unanimously adopted a resolution approving and authorizing execution of an investment agreement for participation in the Lone Star Investment Pool, designating the pool as an agency and instrumentality, approving investment policies of the pool, appointing authorized representatives, and designating investment officers.

The board discussed 2023-2024 Budget Procedures, Possible Tax Rates, and April Property Values and voted unanimously to appoint Steven Collins and Matt Herzog to the Kent County Appraisal District Board.

In other action trustees voted unanimously to approve the 2023-2024 Wellness Plan as presented and to approve the TASB Update 121 as presented.

Trustees then entered into closed session to discuss personnel at 8:12 p.m. and returned to regular session at 8:36 p.m. Afterward theboardvotedunanimouslytohire Kevin Chisum as the girls’ basketball coach.

The next board meeting will be July 17, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.

Members present were L’Rae Lee, president, and trustees Steven Collins, Cody Scott, Matt Herzog, Andy Vargas and Amanda McGee. Trustee Jeff Arnold was absent.

Staff present were Johnny Tubb, interim superintendent, Nathan Branum, principal, Laci Scogin, business manager and Keith Emfinfer, technology director. No visitors attended.
