JGISD board extends superintendent contract to 2025

In the regular meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District board on January 20, 2022, trustees voted to extend the contract of superintendent Layne Sheets to 2025.

In other action, the board heard and approved the financial audit report by Kim Bairrington from Newberry, Leonard, Horton, and Bairrington.

The board approved the trustee election for May 7, 2022 and agreed to utilize the election services contract with Kent County and approved a joint election agreement with the City of Jayton.

Trustees approved a request for county permanent school funds in the amount of $458,457.01 for capital improvements.

The board approved the 2022–23 West Texas Food Service Cooperative interlocal agreement as presented.

Trustees voted in favor of the additional cost to school housing as presented.

School members present were president L’Rae Lee and trustees Connie Martinez, Cody Stanaland, B.J. Baldridge, Amanda McGee, Cody Scott and Jeff Arnold.

School officials present were Layne Sheets, superintendent; Nathan Branum, principal; Roger Smetak, network administrator; and Laci Scogin, business manager.

Kim Bairrington was present as a visitor.

JGISD’s February board meeting was set for Feb. 17, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
