COMPILED FROM MINUTES
In the regular March 2023 meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District board March 29, 2023, trustees voted to advertise the sale of the district-owned surplus house structure.
A motion was made by L’Rae Lee to adopt a board resolution that accomplishes the following: (1) declares the house structure only (no real property) located at 748 Monroe Avenue, Jayton, Texas, to be surplus personal property of the District; (2) authorizes the disposal of the surplus house structure only (no real property); (3) authorizes the superintendent to take any and all action necessary to advertise the sale of the surplus house structure only (no real property) to the highest responsible bidder who can remove the surplus house structure from the real property upon which it stands without cost to the District by a date certain as determined by the Superintendent; and (4) addresses other actions pertaining to its advertising and sale. It was seconded by Steven Collins. All voted in favor.
A motion was made by Jeff Arnold and seconded by Steven Collins to request county permanent school funds in the amount of $226,781.31 for capital improvements. All voted in favor.
A motion was made by Jeff Arnold and seconded by Andy Vargas to approve Policy Update 120 as presented. All voted in favor.
The board entered into closed session for personnel discussion at 8:30 p.m. and then returned to regular session at 8:57.
A motion was made by Steven Collins to extend the contract of Laci Scogin for another year through 2025 with a 3% salary increase. It was seconded by Andy Vargas; all voted in favor.
A motion was made by Amanda McGee to extend a one-year term contract to Nathan Branum for the 2023–24 school year with a 3% salary increase. It was seconded by Jeff Arnold. All voted in favor.
The next board meeting was set for April 27, 2023 at 7 p.m.
Board members present were B.J. Baldridge, Jeff Arnold, Amanda McGee, Steven Collins, L’Rae Lee and Andy Vargas. School officials present were Layne Sheets, superintendent; Nathan Branum, principal; Laci Scoginbusiness manager; and Keith Emfinger, network administrator.
