COMPILED FROM MINUTES In the regular monthly meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District board of trustees on January 19, the financial Audit report was presented by by Kim Bairrington from Bennett, Bennett, & Trice, PLLC. Trustees unanimously approved the audit.
The principal’s report by Nathan Branum included enrollment, CPR and Stop the Bleed Trainings, drills, NHS Inductions, the undefeated robotics team, basketball, debate clinic, stock show, and upcoming events.
The superintendent’s report included the 313 Agreement, Permanent School Funds, and travel. Board Recognized Jarret Herzog, Melody McClane, and their advisor, Hillary Bleiker for UIL State Congress. Trustees approve a board election for May 6, 2023 and an election services contract with Kent County. They approved a joint election agreement with the City of Jayton. The board approved purchasing new copiers for $20,950. There were discussions only on facilities and school holidays, but no action.
Following a discussion about future school property expansion Steven Collins movedd to adopt a resolution to authorize the purchase of an approximately 37.5 acre tract of real property southeast of the District’s campus for future school use, and to authorize the superintendent, in consultation with the Board president, to negotiate the final terms of the sales agreement and to take any and all action necessary to close on the conveyance of the property. It was seconded by Jeff Arnold. All voted in favor.
The board then entered into closed session at 7:41 pm. and exited at 10:03 pm. A motion was made by Steven Collins and seconded by Cody Scott to approve the superintendent evaluation. All voted in favor.
A motion was made by Andy Vargas and seconded by Jeff Arnold to extend the superintendent’s contract by one year to the existing contract to July 31, 2026. All voted in favor.
A motion was made by Steven Collins and seconded by Cody Scott to approve a 3% raise for the superintendent. All voted in favor. The next board meeting is set for February 16, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. In attendance at the January meeting were B.J. Baldridge, president, Jeff Arnold, Amanda McGee, Steven Collins, Cody Scott, L’Rae Lee and Andy Vargas. School officials present were Layne Sheets, superintendent, Keith Emfinger, network administrator, and Laci Scogin, business manager.
