JGISD reports enrollment of 174 at December meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District Board on December 15, 2022, trustees heard from Superintendent Layne Sheets on long-term facility and construction thoughts.

For the 2022–2023 school year, trustees unanimously approved JGISD delegating contractual authority to obligate the school district under Texas Education Code (TEC) §11.1511(c)(4) to the superintendent, solely for the purpose of obligating the district under TEC, §48.257 and TEC, Chapter 49, Subchapters A and D, and the rules adopted by the commissioner of education as authorized under TEC, 49.006. This included approval of the Agreement for the Purchase of Attendance Credit. No audit report was given from Bennett, Bennett, & Trice, PLLC. The auditors will have the report at the next board meeting.

Principal Nathan Branum reported on enrollment of 174, the safety and security meeting update, JH OAP, Christmas Program, robotics undefeated in competition, JH basketball undefeated, District FFA Banquet, JH Band All-Region Band, Elementary and JH winning District UIL, HS basketball and upcoming events, Stop the Bleed Training for secondary students, NHS Inductions, basketball games, and Christmas break.

Board training hours were presented. No action was taken.

The board approved the Superintendent’s Evaluation Instrument as presented and approved a resolution for the expenditure of public funds for settlement of omitted contractor costs as presented.

There was a discussion on school housing and construction planning. No action was taken.

The next JGISD board meeting is set for January 16, 2023 at 7:30 p,m.

Board members in attendance were B.J. Baldridge, Jeff Arnold, Amanda Mc-Gee, Steven Collins, Cody Scott, L’Rae Lee and Andy Vargas.

School officials present: Layne Sheets, superintendent, NathanBranum,principal, Laci Scogin, business manager, Keith Emfinger, network administrator.

Texas legislators assume office at the beginning of the legislative session, which starts at noon on the second Tuesday in January in the year after the election.
