JGISD voters elect 1 new school board trustee, return 2 incumbents

JGISD elected a new school board member and returned two incumbents in Saturday night’s election.

Cody Scott, a manager with OXY Petroleum, was the top vote-getter of the JGISD election with 122 votes, and this will be his first time to serve on the school board.

Board president Amanda McGee, who is the branch manager of the Kent State Bank and who has served nine years as a school board trustee, was reelected with 115 votes.

Incumbent L'Rae Lee was reelected with 95 votes. Lee, who is with Kent County Agri-Life and was formerly employed by the school, was first elected to the school board in 2018.

All three have children who attend JGISD.

Incumbent Cole Carpenter, who was elected to the board in 2018, received 87 votes but did not win reelection. Ron Redford received 81 votes, Lance Spray received 67 votes, and write-in Keith Bryant received 1 vote.

JGISD was voting from six candidates to fill three at-large board positions. The top three in voting win the three seats.
