In its regular meeting of February 28, 2022, the Kent County commissioners’ court handled a variety of business matters. Judge Jim C. White reported that Clearway, managers of the new solar energy project, would be sending a new agreement for the court to review. A 1 p.m. conference call was also scheduled with Wind Energy Transmission of Texas (WETT) manager Dan Allred to discuss remedies for damage done to a county road.
The judge noted that $1,000,000 in county funds had been reinvested in a certificate of deposit at the Bank of Texas at .320 percent interest. There was a suggestion of looking into treasury bills as an investment option.
Kent County Nursing Home administrator Jordan Moeller reported a current total of 45 residents, including three new admissions since last report. After resolution of a long-standing problem with the facilty’s Medicare clearing office, the staff was preparing to submit more than 100 claims for payment on March 1. Moeller said that an occupational therapist had been coming periodically, a great benefit to residents. Kent and Stonewall facilities had been discussion ideas on how to share resources, Moeller said.
Judge White reported that Holly Chisum and Brad Chisum of the Kent County EMS had both passed intermediate certification.
The judge also noted that two elections would be coming up: a statewide election on proposed Texas constititional amendments, May 7, and elections for city and school board places. There would also be a primary runoff election Tuesday, May 24 if required. [Note that as of election returns March 1, two races in Kent County will go to a runoff.]
Two items remained on the agenda for continuation after the lunch break. Present were Judge White and commissioners Roy Chisum, Robert Graham, Daryl Ham and Don Long. County clerk Craig Harrison was absent.
