The Kent County commissioners court held two regular sessons in May, as per its custom, on May 8 and May 22.
In its May 8 session, commissioners discussed the airportpavingandrampgrant work but took no action.
For the Kent County Nursing Home, consultant Tracy Woodward noted 37 residents at present She reported working on updating the employee handbook and synchronizing it with county personnel policies; discussed highlights of proposed changes.
The court entered into executive session to discuss personnel matters and 11:11 a.m. and reconvened in regular session at 12:40 p.m., after which it heard the 2022 county financial audit report presentation by accountant Tony Fidelo. Afterward court entered into another executive session. Upon reconvening, commissioners reviewed and approved financial claims against the county, and approved a pay increase of $5 per hour for county road & bridge employees holding a valid CDL license.
At its May 22 session, the court devoted considerable attention again to nursing home management matters, as the facility strives to hire and retain staff, recruit more residents, and upgrade personnel policies. The nursing home’s curret focus, said consultant Woodward, was on preparing paperwork for its periodic QIPP report.
Woodward also said the home had successfully undergone an OIG records inspection the previous week, a routine process that had not taken place in 2019 and 2020. The updated employee handbook was submitted to the commissioners for a detailed review. The new administrator was set to begin work the following Monday.
The court authorized an investment of $1 million in new investment and reinvestment in the Bank of Aspermont at a rate of 4%.
The court set a called meeting for Friday, May 26.
