Kent commission reinvests funds in local bank

In its regularly scheduled meeting of February 14, 2022, the Kent County commissioners court made decisions about reinvestments and heard department reports.

The court approved reimbursement of $458,457.01 to Jayton-Girard ISD from permanent school funds, for payment on bonded indebtedness and capital improvements.

County judge Jim C. White reported a reinvestment of $900,000 into a certificate of deposit at the Bank of Texas at 0.35 percent. The funds came from a previously approved amount of $640,000 for reinvestment plus a balance of $260,000 at the Bank of Texas.

Additionally, from an $800,000 CD maturing the previous week, after the approved transfer of $458,457.01 to JGSD, the remainder of $341,542.99 was approved for reinvestment at Plains Capital Bank on a 1-year CD at 0.15 percent interest.

Treasurer Christy Long reported $528,909.07 reinvested from Plains Capital to Bank of Texas at 0.3 percent; the court’s motion to that effect was approved.

Judge White reminded the court that a Texas constitutional amendment election would be coming up May 7, 2022, with two propositions on the ballot.

Financial reports were approved, and Kent County Nursing Home administrator Jordan Moeller’s report was approved, noting that Medicaid and Medicare billing would resume that week, with payments resuming as early as Friday, including billing for Covid care.

Moeller reported that the facility had hired a director of rehabilitation and a PTA. The facility had tentatively contracted for training in Medicare/Medicaid billing. Patient census stood at 42, with five recent admissions.

For the county Emergency Medical Services, Judge White reported that staffers Brad Chisum Holly Chisum and Brad had both passed their intermediate EMS training.

The court approved a meals reimbursement of $10 for public transportation drivers.

Present in addition to Judge White were county clerk Craig Harrison and commissioners Roy Chisum, Don Long, Daryl Ham and Robert Graham.
