The Kent County Lions Club, which has built a reputation for strong community support in one of the state’s least-populous counties, presented a one-of-a-kind quilt to the lucky raffle winner at its October 25 luncheon meeting.
The quilt, stitched by member Shirley Long from donated Jayton Jaybirds fan T-shirts dating back even as far as state championship years, was won by county attorney Katie Lackey. Over $1,000 was raised, said member Daryl Ham, in the club’s best fund-raiser to date.
Plans for future community events, fund-raisers and service projects were discussed, with Ham filling in for president Jake Edwards in leading the idea session. The club plans to set its Soup & Santa date to complement Jayton Winterfest. Details should be announced soon.
Members and visitors present totaled 15.
