Kent County reviews nursing home, sheriff’s budgets; special meeting called July 30

The Kent County Commissioners’ Court met in regular session at the Kent County Courthouse in Jayton, Texas, on Thursday, July 19, 2018, with the following members present: County Judge Jim White, Precinct One commissioner Roy Chisum, Precinct Two commissioner Don Long, Precinct Three commissioner Daryl Ham, Precinct Four commissioner Robert Graham and county clerk Craig Harrison.

Judge White called the meeting to order and announced to the court that he had been in contact with two auditors in Lubbock and two in Abilene. To date no answer has been received and no action was taken.

A motion was made by Commissioner Chisum and seconded by Commissioner Ham approving the reinvestment of permanent school funds in the amount of $437,000.00 at the rate of 2 percent due to mature August 16, 2019. The motion carried.

A motion was made by Robert Graham and seconded by Don Long approving the renewal agreement for Kent County with Advanced Environmental I.A.Q. Air Filtration Service for the period of one year. The motion carried.

Sarah Crone met with the court to report on operations of the Kent County Nursing Home. At present time there are 45 residents. The nursing home budget proposal was presented; an increase of private pay was reviewed; employee meals with food cost, replacement of bed sheets and a 1.5 percent increase in salary were brought before the court. No action was taken.

A motion was made by Commissioner Chisum and seconded by Commissioner Graham approving payment of all claims against the county for goods and services and payroll. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Commissioner Long and seconded by Commissioner Graham approving the continuation of the present Kent County Employee Health Care Insurance Plan for Kent County employees with renewal rates and the same county contribution rate. Motion carried.

Kent County Sheriff William Scogin met with the court to present and discuss the sheriff’s budget. No action was taken.

A special meeting of the commissioners’ court was called for July 30, 2018, and the regular meeting was adjourned.
