In its regularly scheduled meeting of May 9, 2022, Kent County commissioners heard a proposal from TxDOT Abilene radio communications staff to install a two-way repeater on the county’s circa 1970s tower at its maintenance facility at corner of N. Main Strett and Williams Street “to aid in management of personnel, equipment, and assist the Kent County government in traffic control, road safety, inclement weather, and emergecies.”
TxDOT personnel reported that while the county tower is likely its best candidate for placing a radio system that would reach the entire county, its visual inspections showed a likely need for repair of the tower’s guy wire system. Commissioners and TxDOT representatives discussed options for meeting their mutual goals, to be revisited at the next session of court.
Lake Alan Henry resident Jennifer Moore presented a request to the court to rework rock fields on the lake shore at her property where CR 351 crosses Grape Creek. The area, Moore said, had become a danger to people seeking access to the water at the spot.
County representatives were agreeable to meeting on site this week and assessing possible solutions.
Treasurer Christy Long reported that Medicare reimbursements had begun to be paid into the county coffers, with some $50,000 received the previous week. Bills were approved for payment.
Judge Jim C. White reported an investment of $735,000, including $493,000 in new funds from oil leases, in negotiation to earn 0.75% for 1 year.
Judge White and commissioners set a date to canvass the May 7 election on Wednesday, May 11, at 9 a.m.
For Kent County Nursing Home, administrator Jordan Moeller reported that the facility’s first patient has enrolled in its physical therapy program. Also, the home is hiring within for two positions.
Moeller also reported a wish to sell a non-working van; Judge White proposed to advertise for sealed bids, which will be opened at the court’s next meeting.
The court adjourned into executive session to discuss nursing home matters.
Present in addition to Judge White were commissioners Roy Chisum, Robert Graham, Daryl Ham and Don Long, and county clerk Craig Harrison.
