Kent Lions plan community service projects

At its October 23 meeting in Jayton, the Kent County Lions Club focused on plans for several upcoming community service. Officers Christy Long and Craig Harrison thanked participants for their work on cleaning up the Main Street frontage at the old Boy Scout Building and barbershop before Homecoming earlier in the month.

“If you see a property in need of help,” said Long, “contact the owners and see if they’re willing to let us clean it up.”

Harrison, who is serving as the club’s president this term, also noted that he had received “many thanks from people who appreciated having a great impression of Jayton.”

For Halloween celebrations Oct. 31, the Jayton Church of Christ was planning a Trunk or Treat in Jayton, and the Kent County Chamber of Commerce was to host a costume contest sponsored by the Kent County General Store (gather at the Community Center at 5 p.m.) followed by “Treats on the Square” in Jayton starting at 5:30 p.m.

There was no update ready on the Jayton gazebo project. The Kent County Child Welfare Board Angel Tree donation was approved for 2023. The raffle drawing for a side of beef is slated for January 8.
