The county-run Kent County Nursing Home, which has been shortstaffed in several positions recently and without an administrator since the departure earlier this year of Jordan Moeller, hired for its top position on Monday.
Maggie McGhee of Rochester, in Haskell County, will take up her responsibilities in Kent County next month. (Look for a full story in The Texas Spur when she arrives.) An audience with her occurred during a closed session of the county commissioners court April 20.
The facility is also in negotiations with a director of nursing candidate, according to staff, and has also been talking with a business office manager candidate.
In other action of the court at its regular session April 24, county commissioners heard an update from nursing home consultant Tracy Woodard, who suggested that a review of the policy handbook would be advisable. The court expects to undertake this after the new adminsitrator is in place.
Commissioners approved payment of half the Lake Alan Henry Water Board directors’ liability insurance policy, for an expense of $1,750, with the other half to be paid by Garza County. Retired County Judge Jim C. White of Jayton continues to serve as the county’s delegate to that board.
Treasurer Christy Long discussed the county’s long-term investments. Kent County holds $6.5 million on certificates of deposit, and commissioners raised options for other instruments. No action was taken.
County Judge Layne Coulter reported that the repeater antenna previously approved for TxDOT use will be installed on the county’s tower the first week of May.
The court adjourned into executive session for approximately an hour, then reconvened and offered the KCNH post to Maggie Mc-Ghee. No further action was taken before adjourment at noon.
Present in addition to Judge Coulter were commissioners Roy Chisum, Robert Graham, Ray Hall, and Daryl Ham, and county clerk Craig Harrison, in addition to county staff members Regina Coulter and Christy Long.
The next regular session of the commissioners court is slated for Monday, May 8, at 9 a.m. at the Kent County courthouse in Jayton.
