LIBRARY NOTES

Secondhand book bargains always available at library

Things seem to be returning to normal around the county. We haven’t had a new case of Covid in quite a while, but rest assured that we at the library will still be vigilant in making sure the surfaces are kept sanitized on a regular basis.

It is nice to see folks getting together again. The annual Highway 70 Garage Sale this past weekend brought out quite a few people. The streets of Dickens and Spur were busy with bargain hunters. I noticed quite a few people had books for sale in their garage sales. The library still has a good selection of hardcover books in great condition in our used book room. These are for sale for a donation to the Friends of the Dickens County Spur Public Library. We also have a large selection of paperback books in the used book room. Bring a bag and fill it with as many as you want. There is no charge for paperback books.

If you just want to borrow one from our steadily growing collection all you need is a library card. There are other benefits to having a library card with us. You will have access to TexShare.org, where you will have the ability to access resources for all sorts of things such as reference materials for school work with CREDO, legal forms with Gale, the Chilton library, and so much more. We can also set you up to use your library card to check out e-books and audiobooks from our Over drive using the Libby app on your smartphone or tablet.

One of the new books we have available to check out this week is “The Odyssey of Geronimo: Twenty-Three Years a Prisoner of War” by W. Michael Farmer. The novel based on history and Apache culture, but told through Geronimo’s eyes using the truth from fiction.

In bestselling author Ralph Compton’s the Gunfighter series we have “Return to Gila Bend” by Carlton Stowers. From William W. and J.A. Johnstone we have “Bury the Hatchet,” in which former Pinkerton agent Buck Trammel has to live up to his own legend or get shot trying.

In a new series by Rusty Davis we have “Cheyenne Gun.” Fox Running learned the hard way that the world was his enemy. As a boy, he lost his Northern Cheyenne home to a blood feud. Fox Running was soon caught in a tangled time where soldiers killed Indians one minute and showed kindness to their children the next. As promised, we now have what is named one of the best books of the year by The Guardian and a New York Times bestseller with over one million copies sold—we just received “Greenlights” by Matthew McConaughey in both hardcover and in audiobook CDs. After an informal Facebook poll asking our patrons which they would prefer the hardcover or the audiobook ended in a tie we decided to get both.

Check it all out at the Library!
