LIBRARY NOTES

Library’s first-ever Game Night slated for Jan. 10

There has not been much happening at the library after the holidays.

I had a young helper for a few days. He helped me put up the Christmas decorations and do some long-needed straightening of the bookshelves. For those of you needing volunteer hours for your college applications, don’t forget the library. We are a great place to volunteer. We can always use a little help. Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community.

We will be having our first Game Night at the library Monday, Jan. 10, 2022 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It is going to be fun. Charlotte Sprayberry and I have been gathering ideas and games. We will divide up into teams and play Minute to Win It. As of now the only prizes will be bragging rights. If anyone has other ideas for Craft Night or Game Night, be sure and let me know. We’re “game” for just about anything.

A couple of our patrons have rediscovered an old favorite. We had most of the books in Michael McGarrity’s Kevin Kernan series. Now thanks to a donation by our Library board president, John Schmidt we now have all of them. McGarrity holds honors in English and psychology and a master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of New Mexico and the University of Iowa respectively. He also graduated from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and worked alongside the New Mexico Public defender’s office as an investigator and case worker. His work is fused with a real-life setup that can only be derived from a one on one encounter with some of the most twisted minds from the criminal justice world. This is what probably makes his work riveting. McGarrity began the Kevin Kernan series in 1996 with “Tularosa”; the latest was released in 2020. Fans recommend you read them in order:

“Tularosa”

“Mexican Hat”

“Serpent Gate”

“Hermit's Peak”

“The Judas Judge”

“Under the Color of Law”

“The Big Gamble”

“Everyone Dies”

“Slow Kill”

“Nothing But Trouble”

“Death Song”

“Dead or Alive”

“Residue”

“Head Wounds”

Check it all out at the library.
