LIBRARY NOTES

New integrated system provides lots of online conveniences for Spur library patrons

We have been using our new integrated library system for just over a week now.

As with any new endeavor there have been glitches and bugs to be worked out. Some of our Libby App and OverDrive users are being prompted to verify their identity with their password and finding it no longer works. It is an easy fix, but you will have to come by or call me at the library to fix it.

I would like to again thank the Tocker Foundation for the funding that makes it possible for the Dickens County Spur Public Library to help our community have access to the same technology that the larger cities have easier access to. Their dedication in helping small rural libraries grow is pretty amazing.

In addition to the new Biblionix Apollo integrated library system, the Tocker Foundation has also funded a grant for the library to be able to offer T-Mobile Hotspots to our patrons. We now have available to check out ten T-Mobile Hotspots These pocket-sized devices are easy to use and can connect up to eight devices, such as your smartphone, laptop, and tablet, to cellular Internet.

There are a few provisions to being able to check out one of the T-Mobile Hotspots. First of all you have to have a valid library card from Dickens County Spur Public Library with no outstanding fines. You also need to be a resident of Dickens County and aged 18 or older. You must look over and sign the device loan agreement. There is a survey to complete and bring back to the library when you return the hotspot to the library, but you only have to do the survey once.

I would like to give you the information again about how to use our new catalog to your advantage. Go to the library’s website, https://spur.ploud. net and click on the advanced search button underneath the search our catalog box in the middle of the page. This should open a new window taking you to our new catalog site. There you can log into your page where you are able to search for a book or material.

By clicking on ‘my account’ you will be able to place a reserve on a book or material, see a list of materials you have checked out, renew materials that are due, and much more.

To receive your initial login and password to the site call or visit the library and we will get you started. Once you have logged into your account you will be able to change your password. Just this morning I received an email stating I had a book out that is due in a few days. I went to the new catalog logged in with my patron number and password and was able to renew my book in just a few minutes. Just a few clicks of the mouse and no more fines for overdue books.

We are hoping you will enjoy being able to be a part of your library experience. I am looking forward to all of the advantages this new system is bringing to our library and community.

We received a few more new books recently. In large print fiction we received “A Stranger’s Game” by Colleen Coble, “The Unknown” by Heather Graham, “19 Yellow Moon Road” by Fern Michaels, “Criminal Mischief” by Stuart Woods, “The Party Crasher” by Sophie Kinsella, “Find Me” by Alafair Burke, and “Daylight” by David Baldacci. In large print western we have “Choctaw Trail” by Preston Lewis, “Fork in the False Trail” by C. M. Wendleboe, and “Savage Sunday” by William W. and J. A. Johnstone.

Check it all out at the library!
