Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in June the library will be hosting programming for the children of the community through the Collaborative Summer Reading Program.
The Collaborative Summer Reading Program is a nonprofit charitable organization that supports literacy, education and science through reading events in public libraries across the United States. This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.”
The programming at the library is aimed at elementaryaged children, but all children are welcome. Some of the programs scheduled are beekeeper Jon Shipp, and Argo Blockchain. Programs we will have but don’t have a set date yet are the Texas Spur Newspaper with Kay Ellington and Barbara Brannon, and Jeromy Rutledge and his chuck wagon.
Reading logs will be made available to the children for them to keep track of everything they have read during this time. Each week they will bring in their filled-out reading log. For every ten books read they can pick out a prize from the treasure chest, also they will receive one entry for the grand prize. On June 28 we will award a grand prize in each age category. We have a new volunteer for our children’s programming. Beginning in July, Katie Tiede will be having story time for preschoolers on Tuesday afternoons at 2:00. Even though story time is aimed at preschoolers any age child is welcome. If you would like to be notified by text for story time please contact the library at (806) 271-3714.
We will be having a Scattergories Game Night in June. I will let you know when the date is set. If anyone has a favorite game they would like to play on a game night please contact me at the library. I am thinking about having an instructional game night for the domino game 42 if there is enough interest.
Don’t forget the Friends of the Library’s book sale going on now at the library. We still have some great cookbooks, biographies, sci-fi, thrillers, romance and much more available for a donation to the Friends of the Library. We also have DVDs and audiobooks in the sale. Bring your own bag and fill it with as many paperbacks as you can for free!
Released in March of this year, we have “The Recovery Agent,” the newest series by bestselling author Janet Evanovitch. Evanovitch’s block buster new series blends wild adventure, hugely appealing characters, and pitch-perfect humor, proving once again why she’s “the most popular mystery writer alive,” according to The New York Times. Lost something? Gabriela Rose knows how to get it back. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing assets of any kind. She’s reliable, cool under pressure, and well trained in weapons of all types. But Gabriela’s latest job isn’t for some bamboozled billionaire, it’s for her own family, whose home is going to be wiped off the map if they can’t come up with a lot of money fast.
Check it all out at the library.
