“Oceans of Possibilities” is the theme for this years’ Collaborative Summer Reading Program we will be participating in here at the library. The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is a nonprofit, charitable organization that supports literacy, education and science through summer reading events in public libraries across the United States. All of the programs we will be having this summer are local.
Jon Shipp, our local beekeeper, will be starting off the summer educating the children about honeybees.
We will be reading “David of the Bees Gathers Honey” by Francie Farmer. This program will take place Tuesday, June 7, at 10 a.m. Jeromy Rutledge of Spur Hardware will be bringing his chuck wagon on Tuesday June 14th at 10 a.m. The children will get to experience how the cowpokes got their meals in the old west. We will be reading “Come and Get It!” by Jennifer Coleman. I was fortunate enough to meet the author of this book last month at the Texas Library Association conference. We visited for some time. She told me that she was born in Scotland but raised in Texas. She is also a librarian. Next week I write about the other two programs we will have this month.
The Friends of the Library have donated several new books recently. Among those is a New York Times bestseller, “Beautiful.” A renowned supermodel’s world is torn apart in an instant, sending her on an unexpected journey of discovery in this masterful novel by Danielle Steel.
The latest in James Patterson and Maxine Paetro’s Women’s Murder Club series is “22 Seconds,” and according to Women’s World it is this summer’s must-read crime-thriller.
The one I am looking forward to reading is “The Book Woman’s Daughter” by Kim Michelle Richardson, author of “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.” I read the first one about a year ago. It was an amazing, thoughtprovoking read.
