I have had many people ask me when we will have the program again on the differences between Medicare and Medicare Advantage. I know the last time we had this program we had a good turnout. The information provided was excellent. Ryan Blake, of Kemper Health in Lubbock will return at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, to explain the differences in each program and answer any questions you may have. If you would like a reminder the day before please contact me at the library to set it up.
With July almost over and August just around the corner, it’s time to begin thinking about school starting back up. The Friends of the Library will be taking donations of school supplies and monetary donations to purchase school supplies beginning now for the 2022–23 school session. The elementary supply lists are already on the school’s websites. You can bring or mail your donations to the library at 403 E. Hill Street. Parents and guardians can pick up the school supply forms beginning Tuesday, July 26, at the Friends of the Library booth during the KCBD Live Community Coverage Tour. Any student who attends a school in Dickens County or is homeschooled in Dickens County is eligible to receive school supplies through this program; that includes Spur ISD and Patton Springs ISD.
With the donations received the Friends will try to fill the requests in each school’s supply lists. To date, the Friends of the Library have been able to fully supply over 100 students with required supplies. Anna McArthur, Helping Hands of Dickens County, and South Plains Greenkeeper Drip Irrigation, LLC (Brady Hinson) are three of the biggest supporters of the program. Thank you to everyone who participates.
We just received our last shipment of books in the Large Print Circuit Plan. These books will be available for our patrons to check out through the end of August. Here is a partial list of these books in western large print fiction: “Red River Ruse” by L.J. Washburn, “Fork in the False Trail” by C.M. Wendelboe, “Fire Mountain and other Survival Stories” by different authors, “Ralph Compton’s Seven Roads to Revenge” by Carlton Stowers, and “The Horse Soldier” by Ethan J. Wolfe.
In large-print thrillers we have “Dream Town” by David Baldacci, “One Step Too Far” by Lisa Gardner, “Before She Disappeared” by Lisa Gardner, “The Chef” by James Patterson and Max DiLallo and “The Cinderella Murder” by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke.
