LIBRARY NOTES

DONNICE CARRUTH | SPECIAL TO THE TEXAS SPUR

Things have definitely slowed down at the library since school has started back.

We have been able to give the back room where the books are for sale a little attention. We have books by popular authors available for you to take home and add to your own library, including titles by Danielle Steel, James Patterson, Tom Clancy, Janet Evanovitch, Daniel Silva and many more. We have a whole bookcase in the sale room dedicated to science fiction, with authors like Anne McCaffery, Issac Asimov, Terry Brooks, and Arthur C. Clarke, just to name a few.

The school supplies have been put away, but if your child needs anything throughout the school year, please don’t hesitate to come by the library and see if we might have what they need. We have quite a few things left over. We would like to thank Rhonda Dalton and the Dickens County 4-H Club for their donation of school supplies toward our drive.

A few new books have been added to our shelves lately. Among them is one People Magazine called one of the best of the summer. “The Last Mona Lisa” is from award-winning crime writer and celebrated artist Jonathan Santofer. It is an enthralling tale about the 1911 theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre, the forgeries that appeared in its wake, and the present-day underbelly of the art world. Inspired by the true WWII history of a bookshop that survived the Blitz, “The Last Bookshop in London” by Madeline Martin is a timeless story of wartime loss, love, and the enduring power of literature.

From Daniel Silva, the internationally acclaimed #1 New York Times bestselling author, comes a riveting new thriller featuring art restorer and legendary spy Gabriel Allon in “The Order.”

Also from Daniel Silva we have “The Messenger.” When on the trail of a deadly al-Qaeda operative, Gabriel Allon leads us on a spellbinding story of deception, power and revenge.

New York Times bestselling author Donna Andrews first introduced ustoMegLangslowas a crime-solving bridesmaid. In her 31st mystery, “Round Up the Usual Peacocks,” Meg returns to her roots, juggling cold cases and wedding guests.

In Hayley Scrivenor’s “Dirt Creek,” a girl goes missing and a community falls apart and comes together.

One of the most requested new authors is Colleen Hoover. Hoover’s sales surge can be attributed partly to her massive popularity on TikTok, particularly in the platform’s #booktok subculture. We now have her New York Times bestseller, USA Today bestseller, The Globe and Mail bestseller, and Publishers Weekly bestseller novel “Verity,” a sensational psychological thriller that has readers obsessed.

Check it all out at the library.
