September is library card sign-up month, but you can get a library card every month of the year.
There are many benefits to having a library card. The Dickens County Spur Public Library offers more than just books. People are often surprised when we tell them we offer the use of T-Mobile Hotspots with cellular data. Their first question is usually, how much? They are often shocked when told, no charge. That is one of the many services offered by your local library The T-Mobile Hotspots presently are being funded by a grant from the Tocker Foundation. I was concerned there wouldn’t be enough interest in the hotspots, but that was not the case. There are several members of our community that are enjoying the benefits of free Wi-Fi. You must have a valid library card, live in Dickens County and be at least 18 years of age to check one out.
Another benefit of having a library card is to be able to check out an eBook or audiobook online through our subscription with Overdrive a digital distributer of eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video titles. You can access this through our online catalog or by downloading the Libby app on your smartphone or tablet.
With a library card you can use one of our seven computers to fill out job applications or income taxes, make an appointment to renew your driver’s license, and everything else that has to be done online.
For a small fee we offer printing and fax services. While using one of the library’s computers you will have online access to our local newspaper, The Texas Spur, where you can catch up on the latest local news and sports.
Even with all these extras we still offer the latest bestsellers by your favorite authors.
Tracie Peterson is one of the most popular authors in Christian fiction. Just added this past week is Peterson’s “The Alaska Saga.” Surviving the rugged frontier of Alaska is a daunting task. But even in that hostile wilderness God allows the tender flower of love to bloom. Follow the adventures and romances of Julie, Beth, and Rita, women of different generations who share a common home.
From New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels we have “Secrets,” which blends mystery and drama in this twisty new Lost and Found novel, as siblings Cullen and Luna set out to uncover the secrets behind a long-lost diary.
In #1 New York Times bestselling author David Baldacci's new thriller, “The 6:20 Man,” a cryptic murder pulls a former soldier turned financial analyst deep into the corruption and menace that prowl beneath the opulent world of finance.
Check it all out at the library.
