DONNICE CARRUTH | SPECIAL TO THE TEXAS SPUR
It is hard to believe another year is almost over. Thanksgiving 2022 is behind us and Christmas 2022 is just around the corner.
We have had some pretty informative guest speakers come to the library this year. Connie Lawrence and Alice Andrews with Northwest Texas Legal Aid had a great presentation on wills, probates and other end of life documents.
We had Ryan Blake from Kemper Health here, telling the differences between Medicare and Medicare Advantage and how each plan would affect those living in our area.
Professional photographer Rick Boales and wife, C.J., came to the library a couple of times helping out aspiring photographers by sharing tips and answering questions.
This past summer for our Collaborative Summer Reading Program we had all local people presenting programming for the children. We had beekeeper Jon Shipp here, fascinating the children with facts about how the bees produce honey. We had Briana Sturgis with Argo Blockchain explaining to the children and a few adults how cryptocurrency and blockchains work. Jeromy Rutledge with Spur Hardware brought a vintage chuckwagon so the children could see how the cook would feed all of the cowboys on a trail drive in the old west. Kay Ellington and Barbara Brannon of the Texas Spur Newspaper had an interactive presentation with the children showing them how to put their own paper together from start to finish.
If anyone has suggestions for other programs or presentations for the library to host in the upcoming year, please let us know.
We have quite a few new books on our shelves. If your baby or toddler is getting bored with ABCs and 123s, we have just added a collection of baby STEM board books to the collection. They are “Blockchain for Babies,” “Robotics for Babies,” “Organic Chemistry for Babies,” and “Electro-Magnetism for Babies,” all written by Chris Ferrie, an award-winning physicist and senior lecturer for Quantum Software and Information at the University of Technology Sydney. He has a master’s in applied mathematics, BMath in mathematical physics and a PhD in applied mathematics.
In the juvenile large print section we have “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Diaper Overlode” by Jeff Kinney. Also in juvenile large print we have “Wings of Fire: The Flames of Hope” by Tui T. Sutherland.
We also added in large print the latest in the Jack Reacher series from Lee Child and Andrew Child, “No Plan B” and Michael Connelly’s “Desert Star,” a Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch novel.
Check it all out at the library.
