LIBRARY NOTES

Craft night Feb. 6; photo club to meet Feb. 11

Mark your calendars and tell your friends that on Monday, Feb. 6 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. the library will be hosting craft night, featuring diamond painting.

Diamond painting is a very popular event on craft night. We will have some small sticker diamond paintings at no charge, and for a small fee there will be larger kits available for you to work on and finish at home. There will be a limited number of the larger ones, so be sure to get here early. You can also bring your own and work on it here. Several of us that have done quite a few of these will bring some completed ones to display. I had a personal photo put on the diamond painting canvas. I will bring that one to display as well.

The yet-to-be-named new photography club of Dickens County will have their first meeting here at the library at 9:30 a.m. Saturday February 11. Anyone interested in photography, whether you are professional or amateur, young or young at heart, experienced or not, please join us. You don’t have to own an expensive camera to join. Some really great photos are taken with smart phones.

The Friends of the Library still have suckers available for a suggested donation of $1.25 each in cherry, watermelon, and cake batter. We also have a few half-pound bags of various flavors of hard candy available for a suggested donation of $7 each. The candy was donated to the Friends of the Library by Mandy Henry of Rock House Candy. You can find Rock House Candy on Facebook.

It seems like we just got going with Amazon-Smile and now it’s over. There were quite a few of our patrons, friends and families that were helping the Friends of the library by choosing them as their nonprofit to support by shopping on Amazon through the AmazonSmile Foundation. We received an email from AmazonSmile stating the program which began in 2013 would be winding down by February 20, 2023. Thank you to everyone who chose the Friends of the Dickens County-Spur Public Library as their nonprofit. In the short amount of time participating the Friends received well over $150 from the foundation.

We have two new large print western novels at the library. From Spur– and Will Rogers–award winning author Preston Lewis, we have “Rio Hondo: Three Rivers Trilogy.” We also have “The Cobbler of Spanish Fort: and Other Frontier Stories,” a collection of short fiction by Johnny D. Boggs, the most awarded writer in the history of Western Writers of America, with nine Spur Awards and 14 Spur finalist honors. Check it all out at the library.
