LIBRARY NOTES

Craft night moved to Feb. 9; photo club to meet Feb. 11

Our diamond painting craft class originally scheduled for Monday February 6th had to be postponed until Thursday February 9th at 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The weather we had recently delayed the shipment of some of the supplies we needed for the class. Everything has arrived and we are ready for some diamond painting.

While you are here for craft night treat yourself or someone else to some hard candy and suckers made and donated by Mandy Henry of Rock House Candy. We have several new flavors in the ½ pound bags such as blackberry, mango, pina colada, and cinnamon. The ½ pound bags are for a suggested donation of $7.00 each or three bags for $20.00. We still have plenty of suckers left. The suckers are for sale for a suggested donation of $1.25 each. All proceeds from the candy will go to the Friends of the Library.

Friend of the Library Charlotte Sprayberry has started a puzzle exchange here at the library. She has several on display. For more information contact the library at 806-371-3714. Several of the donated puzzles came from Spur High School ex-student and class of 1974 Amanda Blackshear.

Saturday February 11th at 9:30 am will be the first meeting for the new photography club. Rick and CJ Boales and a few others are trying to get people together with one common interest; taking photos. If you received last week’s Texas Spur you saw some of their work on the front page. It was an amazing photo of snowfall and bison at Caprock Canyons State Park. I have been taking photographs for years, but I don’t know an f-stop from a stop sign. I am hoping to learn from them and others who will be in the organization.

We received a donation of several juvenile fiction and young adult books recently. “Mulan” by Elizabeth Rudnick is a thrilling novelization of the Disney live action film. The 2017 winner of the Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Mystery was “Girl in the Blue Coat” by Monica Hesse. Beautifully written, intricately plotted, and meticulously researched, Girl in the Blue Coat is an extraordinary novel about bravery, grief, and love in impossible times. Several novels and graphic novels were donated in the Warrior’s series by Erin Hunter. Classics “The Adventures of King Arthur”, “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” and “The Three Musketeers” are retold by Russell Pinter in graphic novels.

We also received something for the adults in large print with Roy and Iris Johansen’s “More Than Meets the Eye.”

Check it out at the library.
