LIBRARY NOTES

Spur library makes e-resources available

One of the benefits of having a library card is the use of the TexShare website. TexShare Databases are e-resources licensed for the exclusive use of Texas libraries and their patrons. TexShare can be used for homework help, health or business information, academic journals, popular magazines, genealogy, or job and career development. TexShare databases provide electronic access to research materials 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Gale Resources, a member of TexShare, offers many different databases. Gale Legal Documents offers the download of all Texas legal forms in either rich format or pdf or sometimes both formats. Gale Resources has recently added a new database to TexShare called Miss Humblebee’s Academy an interactive learning program aligned with preschool and elementary standards for children ages three to six. For more information please call the library at (806) 271-3714.

The newly formed Dickens County Shutterbugs had their first meeting Saturday, February 11 at the library. The club will meet the second Saturday of each month beginning in April. The March meeting will be held on March 4 at 9:30 am at the library. If you are interested in taking photos please plan to join us. It will be a great place to learn all different aspects of photography from lighting and resolution to the preferred editing programs used.

March 11 the Friends of the Library will be having a Chili supper at the community center. There will be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. We will have more details on the silent auction soon. You can purchase tickets for the 50/50 raffle from any library board member or they can be purchased at the library. The tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00. The drawing will be held the night of the Chili Supper. If you have donations for the silent auction please contact me at the library.

We have quite a few new large print books available to be checked out. From bestselling author Danielle Steel we have “The Challenge.” In this thrilling novel, a small community is tested when their children go missing while exploring a dangerous local peak, forcing them to band together during the crisis. Jason Bourne tackles a global media conspiracy in the latest electrifying entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, “Robert Ludlum’s The Sacrifice” by Brian Freeman. In ”Robert B. Parker's Revenge Tour” by Mike Lupica, PI Sunny Randall's newest case hits close to home in ways she never expected in her latest thrilling investigation. Also from Mike Lupica we have “Robert B. Parker’s Fallout.” When two seemingly unconnected mysterious deaths occur on his watch, police chief Jesse Stone must pull out all the stops to unravel the truth and stop a killer from striking again. In what Reader’s Digest calls one of the best books of the year we have “The Housekeeper” by Joy Fielding. A woman hires a housekeeper to care for her aging parents—only to watch as she takes over their lives in this riveting novel.

Check it all out at the library.
