March 11 at Community Center
The Friends of the Library’s big fundraising event is this Saturday, March 11, from 5 to 7:30 pm. The event will be held at Spur’s Community Center at 502 Burlington Ave.
We will be having chili dogs and frito pie with dessert and a drink for a suggested donation of $10 per plate.
We would like to thank Lawrence Brothers Grocery Store and South Plains Electric Cooperative, and Cap Rock Telephone Cooperative and Helping Hands for helping to sponsor the event. The winner of the 50/50 raffle will be drawn that evening, and the silent auction that has been going on at the library and on Facebook will also come to an end. The high bidders will be announced and if not present will be called or contacted by messenger on Facebook.
All of our items have been donated by our generous merchants, businesses and individuals. Your last chance to see the items in person before the night of the event will be at the library Thursday March 9 during regular business hours. We have been adding new items daily. We would like to thank all who have donated the wonderful items for the auction.
A few of the items up for auction are a Treasure Chest full of items donated by the Pitchfork Ranch, a custom knife and sheath made by Thomas Bullard donated by Spur Hardware/Mercantile, a cowhide purse with fringe also donated by Spur Hardware/Mercantile, gift certificates donated by Mayo III, Crystal’s Massage, and Janet’s Homemade Baked Delights, a gift basket full of goodies from Cap Rock Telephone and Cooperative, photographic prints and cards from Rick and CJ Boales of Texas Big Sky Photography, original art from Kelsi Henry of Sparrow Art and so much more.
Story time for preschoolers at the library has moved from 1 p.m. on Tuesdays to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays. Last Tuesday friend of the library, Charlotte Sprayberry, conducted story time reading “Goodnight Moon” and ending doing a “Goodnight Moon” floor size puzzle.
While you’re at the library looking at the silent auction items you might want to take a look at some of the new books we have received lately. From New York bestselling author Marie Benedict we have “The Mitford Affair,” an explosive novel of history’s most notorious sisters, one of whom will have to choose: her country or her family?
In the tradition of Clive Cussler and James Lee Burke we have “Iced,” the latest in Felix Francis’s fictional world. It is a heart-pounding thriller that will keep you racing to the next page..
Check it all out at the library.
