The heat has some folks staying inside where it is nice and cool. A few of them have been cleaning out their personal libraries and donating to the library. We do appreciate the donations.
I do most of my reading electronically in either an eBook or audio book through the library’s Overdrive system. Every once in a while I find a great read there that we do not have here in the library. One of those was David Baldacci’s “The Winner.” A rags-toriches deal for single mother LuAnn Tyler is deadlier than she ever could have imagined in this hard to put down thriller. Because of one of the donations we now have “The Winner” by Baldacci, who is a global #1 bestselling author. His books are published in over 45 languages and in more than 80 countries. Baldacci is the cofounder, along with his wife, of the Wish You Well Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting literacy efforts across America.
Another donation we received is Gillian Flynn’s “Dark Places,” a “riveting tale of true horror by a writer who has all the gifts to pull it off,” according to the Chicago tribune.
For fans of Texas history we have “Texas Ranger Tales: Stories That Need Telling” by Mike Cox. “Texas Ranger Tales” is a collection of legendary Texas Ranger stories, from new takes on the famous tales to fresh stories few, if any, have heard.
We also received Eugene Cunningham’s “Triggernometry: A Gallery of Gunfighters.” Cunningham writes about gunfighters who stood behind the star of office and others whom they faced across drawn pistols. As a veteran novelist, he was interested in the gunfighter’s mind as well as his quick draw. A patron of the library who has a copy of this in his own library says this is one of the books he often rereads. Check it all out at the library.
